Hopedale Medical Complex‘s expansion is chugging along. Located about two hours north of St. Louis, HMC is constructing an oculus-shaped addition that joins two existing buildings. The 35,000 sq ft expansion includes a new lobby, emergency department, imaging space, an intensive care unit, spa-like luxury patient rooms, and a courtyard garden. The addition will be LEED Silver certified, and we have included renewable energy features such as wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, a geothermal bore field, native prairie landscaping, and flexible outdoor space to be used for community events, like farmers markets. Steve and Neil visit the site every Wednesday, and these are the latest-and-greatest shots from this week’s trip. We’ve included a rendering to help you visualize what the construction images are showing:
- The rendered version of the new oculus….
- …and the oculus in progress. You can see the existing building in the background. The outdoor space will be the new garden.
- A view to the other direction.
- One more view….
- Rendered view of the interior and stairs that lead to an observation mezzanine.
- The stairs in progress.
- View from the mezzanine.
- The mid-century modern colored blocks in this existing building are painted glass block. They appear to glow at night, and it will be a cheerful feature to see from the courtyard and new lobby.
- Hopedale’s new helipad.
